Yep, 26 Mbits/s. That's the amazing download speed I was able to get on my friend's HTC Thunderbolt running on Verizon's 4G LTE network. We were at Rosamunde in San Francisco's Mission district, with four out of four bars of signal strength. The upload speed was 5 Mbits/s.
Less than four months after I blogged about the impressive speed of my HTC EVO on Sprint's 4G Wi-Max network, the speed record has already been chattered. By the way, my other friend's iPhone 4 on AT&T's 3G barely manages 1.5 Mbits/s, but we all already know that the iPhone has been left in the dust a long time ago...
Apart from the superior download speed, the HTC Thunderbolt is very similar to the EVO. It has the same 4.3 inch screen, same size and overall layout, and the same front and back cameras and flash. The stand in the back is bigger and has a better speaker. They both run HTC Sense and Android 2.2 Froyo on a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor.
The Thunderbolt comes with a 32 Gb memory card, versus 8 Gb for the EVO. The EVO has a slightly better 1,500 mAh battery versus 1,400 mAh for the Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt doesn't have the HDMI ouput, although I rarely use that on the EVO.
Now I can't wait to see the EVO 3D and it's dual-core processor coming up this summer...
